PACKARD AVE CURRENT UPDATES

Construction Updates

  • Project Start Date:   September 26th

What will the Project Involve?   The proposed utility project will entail the replacement of sanitary sewer from Pulaski to Holmes.  From Holmes to Plankinton Avenue the sanitary sewer, water main, and laterals serving the properties will be replaced.  From Plankinton to Cudahy the sanitary sewer will be replaced.  The utilities are being replaced because they are nearly 100 years old and are in very poor condition.  The utility replacement work has been scheduled to begin this year in anticipation of pavement rehabilitation work that is scheduled for 2012.    If the utility work is not completed by December and weather does not allow for construction work to continue through the winter, the construction will be stopped and completed in spring 2012.  By the end of November a temporary asphalt pavement will be placed over the trenches to allow use of Packard Avenue during the winter months.

How long will the construction last?  The construction is scheduled to begin around the third week in September pending weather conditions.  The contractor will be working on the section from Pulaski to Barnard until December 1st, 2011.  The section north of Layton will tentatively not be started until spring 2012.  Pavement that is removed this year as part of the utility work will be replaced with temporary asphalt prior to December 1, 2011.  If the weather warrants, the contractor may continue some of the work between Barnard & Layton through December.  The road will be open to through traffic during the winter.  The contractor will return around March 15th and complete the work form Barnard to Cudahy by May 20, 2012.
