Lead Poisoning Prevention Services

Blood Lead Poisoning Screening is provided for age-appropriate children who attend the Cudahy WIC Clinic. They can undergo free screenings for lead poisoning at the time of their WIC appointments.

If your child has any elevated blood lead level, public health nurses will provide you with the necessary information and referrals.

Hepa Vacuum Cleaners and supplies are available for any Cudahy resident who would like to do simple lead abatement in their homes.  A security deposit is necessary to borrow the Hepa vacuum.

Healthy Babies Health Homes is a voluntary lead prevention program available free of charge to any Cudahy resident who is pregnant or has children under the age of 6 years, and lives in a home that was built in or before 1950.

A nurse will test the home for lead and provide information about  the sources of lead, the harmful effects of lead and what can be done to safely eliminate or reduce potential lead hazards in the home.

Contact the Cudahy Health Department at 769-2239 ext. 304 for more information and to schedule an appointment.

Lead Safe Work Classes are offered free of charge to Cudahy property owners once a year in the spring.  The property must have been built in or before 1950.  The class presents both classroom and hands-on learning experiences including:

  • Sources of lead
  • Harmful effects of lead
  • Legal implications of lead in your property
  • Demonstrations showing how to work safely to reduce lead hazards

The classes are held at the Cudhay Health Department and are taught by the Milwaukee Lead and Information Center.
